PrivateScan OCR Public Beta Disclaimer and Known Issues
Effective date: 06/18/2026
PrivateScan OCR Public Beta is a free testing build. It is intended to help evaluate OCR quality, packaging, local processing behavior, usability, and feedback collection before a production release.
This beta is not commercial production-ready software.
1. Beta warning
PrivateScan OCR Public Beta may contain:
- bugs;
- incomplete features;
- OCR mistakes;
- missing text;
- incorrect text;
- incorrect bounding boxes;
- PDF rendering issues;
- model/runtime packaging issues;
- performance issues;
- installer issues;
- Windows compatibility issues;
- feedback-flow issues;
- export issues.
Use this beta for testing and evaluation only.
2. Do not rely on beta OCR for important decisions
OCR is not perfect. You should manually review all extracted text.
Do not rely on PrivateScan OCR Public Beta as the sole source of truth for:
- legal documents;
- medical documents;
- financial documents;
- tax records;
- academic submissions;
- immigration documents;
- government forms;
- regulated business workflows;
- contracts;
- invoices requiring exact accuracy;
- identity documents;
- compliance records.
3. No compliance certification
PrivateScan OCR Public Beta is not certified for:
- HIPAA;
- SOC 2;
- FERPA;
- PCI;
- legal-grade OCR;
- medical-grade OCR;
- financial-grade OCR;
- evidentiary or court-ready extraction;
- government compliance;
- enterprise compliance.
It is a local-first productivity utility, not a regulated compliance product.
4. Local OCR limitation
PrivateScan OCR is designed for local OCR processing. The built-in OCR workflow should not automatically upload your documents, images, filenames, OCR text, bounding boxes, rendered PDF pages, or exports.
However, local-first privacy can be affected by your own actions or other software, including:
- saving exports into cloud-synced folders;
- emailing files or results;
- uploading results to third-party tools;
- screen sharing;
- remote support;
- antivirus or endpoint monitoring tools;
- OS-level logging or backup tools.
5. Feedback warning
Feedback is optional.
Before sending feedback, review the exact payload shown by the app.
Do not paste private document contents, OCR text, client information, confidential business information, medical information, legal information, financial information, passwords, government ID numbers, or other sensitive information into feedback messages.
PrivateScan OCR should not automatically attach documents, screenshots, OCR text, filenames, file paths, bounding boxes, or exports to feedback.
6. Known weak areas
The following areas may be unreliable in the beta:
- blurry screenshots;
- low-light phone photos;
- handwriting;
- receipts;
- invoices with complex layouts;
- rotated or skewed text;
- multi-column documents;
- unusual fonts;
- very large PDFs;
- encrypted or password-protected PDFs;
- multilingual documents unless the bundled model supports them;
- Chinese or mixed English/Chinese documents unless specifically tested;
- scanned contracts with stamps, signatures, or background noise;
- PDF files with unusual embedded images or permissions.
7. Demo mode
If the local OCR model or runtime is missing, PrivateScan OCR may show demo-mode output.
Demo-mode output is not real OCR. It exists only to demonstrate the app workflow.
Do not evaluate OCR accuracy from demo-mode output.
A valid public beta build should clearly label demo mode with wording such as:
DEMO MODE ONLY - NOT REAL OCR
8. Model/runtime requirements
Real OCR requires compatible local OCR model files and runtime components.
For an all-in-one beta ZIP, the intended user experience is:
- download the ZIP;
- extract the ZIP;
- open PrivateScan OCR;
- run local OCR without manually installing Python or model files.
If real OCR does not run, report the issue using the feedback tool and include safe diagnostics only.
9. No guarantee of future free access
The public beta is free. Future versions may include paid features, paid licenses, different packaging, different models, or different terms.
Using the free beta does not guarantee free access to future paid versions.
10. Recommended beta testing workflow
For useful beta feedback:
- Try a non-sensitive test image or PDF first.
- Confirm whether the app is in real OCR mode or demo mode.
- Try copy/export.
- Review extracted text manually.
- Send feedback only if you are comfortable with the payload shown.
- Do not send private document content.
