PrivateScan OCR Public Beta Terms
Effective date: 06/18/2026
These Public Beta Terms govern your use of the free public beta version of PrivateScan OCR.
By downloading, installing, or using PrivateScan OCR Public Beta, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the beta.
These terms are beta legal drafts and are not legal advice.
1. Product
PrivateScan OCR is a Windows desktop application intended to extract text from images and PDFs using local OCR processing.
The public beta is provided for testing, feedback, and evaluation. It is not a commercial production release.
2. Free beta license
During the public beta period, PrivateScan OCR is provided free of charge.
You are granted a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the public beta for personal evaluation, testing, and feedback.
You may not:
- sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or commercially resell the beta;
- claim that you created PrivateScan OCR;
- distribute modified versions without permission;
- remove copyright, attribution, or third-party notices;
- use the beta to violate laws or third-party rights;
- attempt to bypass technical protections, feature gates, or license controls;
- extract bundled models or runtime files for redistribution except as allowed by their original open-source licenses.
3. Beta status
PrivateScan OCR Public Beta may contain bugs, incomplete features, packaging issues, OCR errors, performance issues, compatibility issues, or other problems.
Features may change, be removed, become paid in the future, or stop working during or after the beta.
We may suspend, modify, or end the public beta at any time.
4. No payment for beta
The public beta is currently free. No payment is collected for this beta build.
Future versions may include paid licenses, paid features, or separate commercial terms. Using the free beta does not guarantee free access to all future versions or future paid features.
5. OCR accuracy
PrivateScan OCR does not guarantee accurate text extraction.
OCR quality may depend on:
- scan quality;
- image resolution;
- lighting;
- blur;
- handwriting;
- font style;
- language;
- layout complexity;
- rotation;
- document damage;
- PDF rendering behavior;
- local model/runtime limitations.
You are responsible for reviewing OCR output before relying on it.
6. No regulated or professional use guarantee
PrivateScan OCR is a productivity utility.
It is not certified for:
- HIPAA;
- SOC 2;
- FERPA;

- regulated business workflows.
PrivateScan OCR does not provide legal, medical, accounting, tax, academic-integrity, regulatory, or professional advice.
7. Local-first privacy promise
PrivateScan OCR is designed so that the built-in OCR workflow runs locally.
The app should not automatically upload document images, PDFs, rendered pages, filenames, OCR text, bounding boxes, or exports.
This local-first promise applies to PrivateScan OCR’s built-in workflow. It may be affected by your choices or other software, including cloud-synced folders, backups, email, remote support tools, endpoint monitoring, antivirus tools, browser uploads, or third-party integrations.
8. Feedback
PrivateScan OCR may include optional feedback tools.
If you send feedback, you grant us permission to use that feedback to improve, debug, develop, market, and support PrivateScan OCR without compensation to you.
Do not include private document contents, OCR text, sensitive personal information, confidential business information, passwords, financial information, medical information, legal information, or government ID numbers in feedback.
9. Updates
The beta may not include automatic updates.
You may need to download a new build manually from the official website.
Do not install PrivateScan OCR from unofficial sources.
10. Third-party components
PrivateScan OCR may include or rely on third-party open-source components, OCR models, runtime libraries, and tools. These third-party components are governed by their own licenses.
Third-party notices are provided in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md and related license files.
PrivateScan OCR is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by PaddlePaddle, Baidu, OpenAI, Stripe, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, or any other third-party provider unless explicitly stated.
